>>2310434Anon, what part are you in? If you're on the eastern edge you can find refuge in Missouri. If it's the west, hit up Cimarron National Grassland or drive the four hours to the front range. If it's the middle, there are still a lot of state parks to visit that have hiking/biking/kayaking. Protip, Kansas is the only state besides New Mexico that offers an annual camping pass for its state parks. $200 for free camping year-round. You can also get the annual vehicle pass for cheap when you renew your car registration, so definitely get that. In a state with virtually zero federal land outside of the aforementioned National Grassland, you have to take advantage of the parks.
Personally I'm planning to do a spring tour of the state, heading west until I get to the Grassland. Should be pretty comfy. I don't think they make a state more comfy than Kansas really, the geography is so simple and optimistic. Find the beauty where you can, and be glad we live in a very affordable, unpopulated place with wide-open skies. Most importantly, thank God every day you weren't born a Texan.
