>>2315366I moved to CT right around when I finished college in 2011. There is not really any wilderness in the state but there is plenty of low traffic woods in the north east and north west. Two of my favorites are Bigelow Hollow and Barkhamsted reservoir.
Bigelow has free entry and parking if you are a CT resident and you can hike out on trails to the east of the main lake to dispersed camping sites. You can also just bushwack out into the woods past the marked trails and camp.
Barkhamsted I only camped at once but there is a through trail with campsites along it that goes to the east of the reservoir. There's a bunch of trails and access roads around the whole lake and they all say no trespassing because its owned by the water company but I have been trespassing on them many times per year without seeing a single person.
