/out/, I've been looking into getting a portable GPS, and seeing all those tacticool soldiers with their tacticool wrist Garmins, I've been wondering.
Is there a point in getting a good portable GPS when smartphones are a thing? The GPS in my smartphone (i5700 Samsung Spica or something) is utter garbage, works only in home, when I'm sitting still next to WiFi, but wherever I go I see vivid discussions which one is better?

Adding google maps and endomondo shit/countless other apps is pretty cool, but seeing as my phone is shit, I'm kinda sceptic.

My dream GPS would be: Connecting whenever, wherever in less than 5 minutes, ability to add Custom maps (Google preferably, but even outlines would work). To be honest, pic related is kinda cool, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but I don't know isn't it a bit try-hard.
