The rain here in the spring and summer is from humid air billowing in from the Gulf of Mexico, condensing over a cooler land mass, and dissipating as scattered showers. This happens more in the warmer months, while rain in the cooler months is usually from frontal systems pushed in by the jet stream.
As such, the summer rains aktshually do fall straight down with little to no wind, don’t bring a drop in temperature, are very sporadic and unpredictable (40% chance every day), and basically turn the entire region into a steam room. It rains for 20 minutes, stops, then starts again a few hours later. Often times it rains while the sun is still out. When that happens, old timers will say “the Devil’s beating his wife.” If you’ve never heard that expression it’s because you’re not from here.
The winter rains (there are fewer) are more typical, with winds and such. That’s what we’re expecting Friday; .25” of rain and possibly some snow with 15mph winds in front of a 45° temperature drop. That’s poncho weather, lol.
