Also it's going to be much more durable. Plastic ponchos are great, but if you stray too far from clear paths, you're going to rip it to shreds. A plash palatka is durable as fuck, and allows you to walk through thorny bushes like it's nothing.
It's also 1.4 kg, and it doubles as an actual coat, aswell as a tent, something ponchos don't do. And it's made of pure cotton. And it's not >100€ like those ultralight ponchos.
It's really some solid piece of gear for such a low price. Granted, there's better, but there's worse too.
