I had to hike with a flashlight once and it was not the best.
I'm glad I had the flashlight.
I don't think it would damage it that much and it would be worth the views. I think the areas should be more densely developed but only for recreational use.
The weekend crowds at Mt. Rogers already overwhelm the available parking and the US population is only growing. It's a public amenity to have access.

this is facing west i think from cheat mountain
u have to DRIVE (or walk if ur fancy) a bit down the road to the parking for the old growth trail and then the allegheny (long distance) trail connects in nearby if u want to backpack here it's pretty great
