yeah they are just decorative.
the whole things weighs 690 grams. its a nice middle ground between a knife and an axe and does the job of both well enough unlike many other hybrid tools

I really like her, cuts and chops nicely with a toothy edge
The problem is that I sweat a lot and she rusts quite fast
I tried beeswaxing the leather holster and it helped, but she still rusts a bit

I live in the tropical rainforest, so it's very humid, but it only rusts even when oiled when my sweat gets through the leather holster into the knife
I guess I'll try to coat it with even more beeswax or I'll have to get a holster with some kind of liner, idk

if it rusts that easy, you can also try doing a mustard or vinegar patina. it will give it a protective coating. I have an m4 steel blade that I cold blued to give it some corrosion protection.

The requirements for a fighting knife are pretty different from an outdoors knife. Any particular reason you want one that works as a fighting knife?
Ideally if you're worried about having to stab something/someone you'd get something thicker with a spear point to avoid damage to the blade or edge, but those typically don't make amazing outdoor blades because they'll cut like shit in wood. In theory if you have a belt sander you could get an OKC499 and just thin it out to make it a little less shit at woodwork, but generally its not an amazing idea to mix the two.

Do the patrician thing, pull the metal clip out of that big square plastic piece, drill 2 holes in the back of the metal clip, and mount the clip straight to the sheath. Stays a lot closer to the belt and doesn’t move around so much.

I live in between the ocean and the swamp and haven’t had an issue with rust. I’ll put a tiny bit of 3-in-1 on the edge once every month or so if/when I sharpen it and that’s as much as I care for the things. The back of the belt clip is the only thing that really got any rust from sweat at work every day for 2 years.

Not really. The original clip makes the sheath sit like 1/2” off of your belt, it sticks out more. Without that plastic shit, it sits nice and tight up against the belt, especially if you don’t wear super thin girls belts.

I carried the izula with the original plastic piece on there for like a month or two before some anon showed me the trick and it has been much better with the plastic square gone. Did the same thing immediately when I got the Candiru.

Yeah it’s easy, here’s another pic. Two like 3/16” holes, or whatever size looks close to the hardware.

That pic is the Candiru, the little bolts stick out a tiny bit but I could grind them down if I cared. The Izula is thicker with the same exact hardware so the tips of the bolts don’t stick out and rub the belt like this pic.

It's alright, but its kind of a shit fighting knife. It has no guard and the blade geometry doesn't lend itself to combat. Again, I question your need for a knife that is useful for both fighting and outdoor activities. You really should just pick one or the other imo. Cheap stones work but not well for most knives a diamond plate of 6-800 grit and a stone of 1-5k will do anything you need and you can get more autistic later with strops and high grit 10-30k grit stones.
I recommend shapton waterstones and dmt diamond plates.

Steels are just for maintaining an edge between sharpenings. Most commercial butcher's use a knife service and have them bulk machine sharpened and switch out between a few sets of knives as well.

Steels up to d2 or so do fine on the regular King 1000/3000 with a nagura stone for making a fine slurry. High carbide steel does better on a diamond stones as it takes less time to sharpen and doesn't rip the carbides out. I have the easiest time with a soft Arkansas stone and stropping with green compound as most of my knives are 1070.

Appears to be a plastic sheath in the photos posted here, but the leather sheath is only a few dollars more. Great price, am considering getting one for myself. The M95 has a blade about an inch longer than the M07.

I want to share something I've learned while sharpening. The direction of your teeth on a toothy edge depends on if you sharpen going tip first of hilt first.
Taking for example only edge leading strokes on a waterstone, if you angle the knife hilt first, you'll get a knife that slices better by pulling the knife blade towards me (like a japanese pull saw)
I drew a shitty sketch for clarification's sake
Anyone ever had the same experience? I can surely feel the difference if I do a slice by pushing or pulling the blade.

It has to be for independent shops who need a higher markup and they can still cut 10% off MSRP and make local customers feel like they got a good deal. They also call it “List Price” on lots of things, but actual retail is 50%-75% of the list price. Music equipment is like that, the “List Price” on a cymbal will be like $407.00 but every major retailer sells it for $249.99.

It’s better to get the whole picture. The manufacturer makes an product for say 50 bucks. They sell it to distributors for 60 to 80 depending on how much stock they order. The list price or MSRP is let’s say, $150. The manufacturer can’t sell it for less than that because they have a noncompete contract with their distributors. Some distributors only wholesale to end retail stores and take their cut along the way, those are your gun stores and mom and pop shit. They’ll knock 20 bucks off list when they go out of business. Bladehq and knifecenter alone make up 80% of sales. Their only competition is each other and the price they sell it for is about as low margin as it gets until it’s a holiday and they knock 20% off and still make a small profit. To use your instrument analogy, Sweetwater can buy and sell so many gibsons that they can sell it for the same price as the next 4 competitors and employ a man who sends me personal texts and emails and will knock 15% off the next one I buy because they sell so goddamn many that what they bought it for is lower than what the next 4 competitors paid.

I just hate removing so much metal every time I sharpen, I usually maintain on a strop until I damage the edge badly enough to require the 320. Then I stop somewhere between 1500 and 12k depending on my mood. For my Mora that only gets used on wood stays mirror polished.

iirc stainless for mora knives is sandvik14 which is technically stainless but has blade holding, toughness qualities like a carbon blade. look up each type of steel and see what qualities they have, can vary wildly from steel to steel eg a lot of knives use "1095" but really they vary wildly based on treatment, additives, etc

I prefer the looks of his belt knife, the "survival" knife is a tanky beast for it's size. If you ever wanted a knife to do stupid shit with, that's probably a solid choice, but for me I'd take the belt knife, it has what I want in a belt knife, good food/game prep and a grind that'll carve into wood well. In other words an all around knife.

I've been tempted to just get one but have a hard time justifying it to myself when I have a set of 4 KoA knives that are perfectly serviceable and haven't let me down yet, so it's more of a want thing than a need thing for now.

All I know is it has a better handle material and checkering, longer steel bits, a blade that is more or less aligned, an even grind and thicker springs that don't implode, which is more than I can say for most benchmades I've ever owned or handled. And it costs less than the equivalent grip did.

I strop my knife about once a week because use starts to make it dull. I've had carbon knives rust on me, but only the ones that are in storage. I've never had an in-use knife rust on me... Except for a kershaw leek my wife gave me a long time ago. I took it in the ocean, like a dumbass, and it rusted overnight. I had to send it back to kershaw and have them clean up the bearing before it worked right again.

Yep, the Mora 2000 which directly inspired the Kansbol is bretty good, I like the grip on the Kansbol more.

It's a solid design, it has inspired some custom knife makers to do their take on it, one in particular is William Collins. I've been trying to keep myself from buying one of his knives (they're a bit pricey) this one >>2324835
I'm just not hardcore enough to spend that kind of money on a knife that I won't use to stab enough snakeheads to keep Bepis happy.

I may end up buying it anyway just to beat Bidenflation, six months ago I could swear it cost a hundred dollars less than it does now, even if I only end up using it mainly as a cheffy woods knife.

For the money I'd go with something from the Survive! GSO series
Specifically the GSO8, but that's my personal preference
If you want something closer to the length of the WCSK then the GSO 5.1 or 5.5 might be more up your alley
CPM 3V with the "delta" heat treat that I think can only be found in Carothers Performance Knives and Survive! knives as they co developed it
Even normal CPM 3V is tougher than O1 and more corrosion resistant

You're paying for a guaranteed not fucked up heat treat, and a cryo treatment, along with an "exotic" steel
For the $ I'd get a busse, something like an ASH2
The TRC Apocalypse is probably the studiest stainless chopper you're gonna get your hands on
Protip, if you get the apocalyptic finish it's more prone to rusting
Also I've never handled an Apocalypse, but I have handled a TRC K1-S and I can say the handle geometry feels awesome on those
Also they have the nicest factory sheaths hands down (if you like kydex)

That's exactly the thing though. If you are stropping it or however you touch it up, you're knocking off the patina, sure, but you're knocking off any rust as well. So it's a moot point. The patina thing isn't even worth worrying about if the rest of the blade is coated, like the Esee knives. If it's like an Opinel and there is no coating, then a patina will form on the spine and sides of the knife, and that's fine. but the edge will always be shiny because it's being regularly touched up.

Which is a lot of words to say I just don't think it's much of an issue.

I mean, we beat this into the ground regularly, but get diamond stones and make or buy a strop, and with a little practice, you'll never need anything else. I have this set I use at home, which is just a Coarse, Fine and extra fine DMT plate and a paddle strop...

... and this set I take camping which is a DMT coarse/fine diafold and a belt with some compound rubbed on the inside. you put the cord loop over anything, (door knob, tree branch, your foot, etc...) and pull it taught, then strop on it.

If you're stropping on the pull tight type of strop, keep the blade flatter to the leather, because the leather bends around the edge more.

I just want my knife to be a little more rust resistant for fuck sake, what is everyones problem with forced patinas? It's not completely necessary, but it doesn't hurt and is pretty convenient as opposed tp having an uneven patina form over time

I agree, but it's a little hard to distract yourself from someone going out of their way to bait you

OP here, I wanna post my updated collection before the thread dies. I traded the no. 9 for 2 slipjoints (the yellow stockman and bone handle trapper), recently recieved my great grandfathers knife (the black stockman), lost my peacemaker II somewhere, and bought the buck canoe, cold steel mini leatherneck dagger, and CRKT minimalist cleaver. The only knife I have currently that isnt in the picture is a buck 286 (and my cheapshit beaters, but we don't talk about those)

I did one with mustard, and it sure does give sharp edges, (it's basically just vinegar in a gel form as far as the chemistry of it is concerned), but you really have to stick with simple stripes, or it just looks like the Acid Man came all over your knife.

If I was going to do it again, I'd probably just stick it in a potato for a even dark partina, but I'm lazy and simple, so the more effort you put in, I'm sure the better it will look.

My opinion isn't changed from that
I'm not saying it's a garbage knife or anything
Assuming you're buying it for bushcrafting, I assume anyone who does that wants the toughest steel they can get their hands on
Currently, short of something proprietary like INFI from Busse, that steel would be CPM 3V or Z-tuff
Does this mean the WCSK is prone to breakage? no
For the money I'd go Survive! GSO
For less than the WCSK you can have something with a tougher steel, and comes with a sheath
Unlimited money, I'd go Busse
My other issue with the WCSK is the sharpening
All those weird angles I imagine it'd be a pain in the ass
