i would go out more if it wasnt impossible to find a decent spot to set up my tent, every place i find is either on an incline, right next to an animal trail or theres some other bullshit like a rock or a small tree stump in the way

There's always gonna be something to whine and complain about. I have to opposite problem, too many places to set up in beautiful sunny southern California, too many other people (even if they're miles away) and just being in wide open. I would Looooove to bring a little Opinel sawzall or branch trimming thing, kick out some rocks and roots, and set up a little super compact Bivvy thing tent.

I bring an 8' x 8' and sometimes feel like it's small

Even in crowded forest, if you move logs or rocks, it’s easy to find a spot for a human body to lay flat. Tents can have big footprints, but consider a tarp/bivy combo to let you visualize the amount of flat area your body actually needs.

my solution is to sort of engineer a site. if its a hill place a log on the bottom end of the slope then use leave to flatten the area out. be sure to overfill ast they will copreess to about a 3rd or 4th of their original height. this also makes for a much more comfortable sleep. in the end i think the extra work is worth it especially if it mean you get to camp nearer to water and out of the wind.

I’m 40 and have been hammock camping since my mid 20’s. I’m not a retarded fat fuck who just lets his body go to shit, but from what I hear older folks have much more trouble sleeping on the ground and hammocks are a godsend for them.

don't act like the underbrush/deadwood in op isn't going to get in the way of your hammock set up as well

this is something i've tested over hundreds of miles on the trail with my friends, let's say there is a circumstance where we were in an area where it is easier to find a spot for a hammock (this was never the case in on the nct but let's say it is for this hypothetical), even if my hammock friends found a spot before me, before they're done doing all the micro adjustments involved with their tedious set up i can MAKE a spot and have my tent up, bag rolled out, and water on the stove

a slight incline doesn't matter as long as you're not sliding around and clearing the footprint for a 1 person tent is easy af
