Where are some good places to get out to and do some backpacking/primitive camping if I live in New York City? Are the Catskills nice?

how far are you willing to travel in hours?

pic related is maybe 3, 3.5 hours from NYC I think

yeah this is true. for the record i'm not from NYC i'm from the midwest and am an Eagle Scout if that carries any merit* around here. I just work here.

4 hours is probably my max but eventually I want to plan a trip to the Adirondacks. where is picrel?

On the allegheny plateau in northeastern Pennsylvania. There's lots of stuff there and it will be a lot less crowded than the Adirondacks. You can look for less popular trails yourself (PA has a ton) - or you can just do what everyone else does and go to the high peaks of the Adirondacks and bring NYC with you.

Also, the boy scouts are a homophobic organization that deserve to be shut down for their malice.
