>>2327311Yeah, I’ve been several times. It’s a national forest, not a state forest, so the typical rules apply regarding dispersed camping/backpacking. It’s one of the darkest places in the area with regards to light pollution, so it’s great for star gazing. The primitive campground is usually empty, and the facilities are clean, though I haven’t used them in a few years.
In another thread me and another Anon both emailed the regional director and neither of us were given a concrete reason as to why the Tally’s Creek trail is closed, just that it’s because of unspecified storm damage. Pic is the email I received. I’ve illegally hiked that trail a couple of times since the closure and I can state with certainty that it’s not damaged in any way whatsoever.
Richardson Creek remains open and is worth checking out. Both aren’t anything spectacular, but they do offer a nice escape into the woods, and they’re not used very often.
