Hey, /out/. I've been thinking.
How many of you have hiked trails that you're proficiently familiar with at night? There are trails on my property (a good many at that) and I know them like the back of my hand, and I regularly jog or drive along them as I find myself needing to get from one area to another. But all of that happens during the daylight hours. I've never really sought to go out at night.
The risks of trail-running without daylight are potentially fatal, though perhaps only as unfortunate as being stuck out in the woods for a cold, harsh night. The risks must nevertheless be considered, however.
What can I do to make sure (for example) that I don't end up falling into a creak accidentally and dying from hypothermia after I madly sprint through the woods in some vain attempt to find help?
I've thought about using some sort of markers that would glow in the dark or glow under a certain light. Though I'm really only dreaming. I have no idea if that sort of thing exists or even is possible.
What say you? Suppose there's a trail that I travel upon at least two or three times per week, though only ever in daylight. What would I need to know or account for beforehand in order to take the trail in question during the night?
