What tent/bivy do you use for backpacking?

In May I’m going to High Peaks Wilderness in NY for a 3 day backpacking trip. The current tent I have is too big to fit in my backpack so I need to get something new. What do you guys recommend?

Lots of top shelf tents are polyester. It’s not the 1990’s. Polyester’s stiffness and water resistance make it desirable, while the strength of nylon is just overstated and unnecessary.

What are your preferences for a shelter? Freestanding? 1.5p? Single wall? You said bivy, you alright with a tarp?

1p? Msr makes a light 1p or big agnes. If size is an issue, a nonfreestanding or semi-freestanding saves a ton. Also make sure youre not bringing all the tent bags, can often make room by separating components and fitting around the bag.. Free thread tips: silnylon tents, add a small loop of shock cord to ties outs like the door for a tighter pitch that self adjusts.
