I've got the TG-630 iHS, and it works really well. Never had a problem with it, and the video quality comes out very well.

Plus it's 150$ cheaper.

Canon SX130 + CHDK (+pelican case if I'm in my kayak). It's not officially impact resistant but IME Canons are pretty tough.

Tough/waterproof cameras are good for watersports but don't have the zoom or image quality of other cameras. Don't use mine much at all, even in the boat, after the novelty wore off.

Great weatherproofability, durable as fuck, tough as a tank, and doesn't require batteries to operate. Also, dat film grain.

Some of these waterproof point-and-shoots take decent pictures, but you're really limited in how much zoom you have (just by design, the lens has to be small and short and can't extend out of the body). You don't really need one for most outdoor activities, though. I use a Canon s95 (ordinary, non-waterproof point-and-shoot), and I just put it into a ziploc when it starts raining. The rest of the time, even light rain, it's fine in the pocket of my backpack. I'd only consider one of those waterproof cameras if I was whitewater kayaking/rafting.
