>>2332419>Anyone have any good reccs for a mechanical mountaineering watch?Sinn 1000%
They are doing shit with mechanical watches no other company is doing in terms of making their watches bomb proof
What you get for the $ is unbeatable
Just make sure on any given watch that you check the "technical details" sections and scroll down a bit to see what that particular watch can do
In terms of what you're looking for that applies specifically to mountaineering:
3 technologies they do in particular
Their "temperature resistance technology", they use a proprietary oil that allows the movements to be functional down to -45C/-49F
Their AR dehumidification technology, nitrogen filled case (keeps moisture out), proprietary seals reduce air diffusion by 75% vs nitrile, and lastly replaceable copper sulfate capsules absorb what moisture does come in the case
^There isn't a single other watch company on the planet doing this
"Tegiment" ie they harden the case (and bracelet if applicable) to 1200 vickers, nigh impossible to scratch
Cheapest you're gonna get these 3 features together in a new Sinn is the 857 UTC VFR for $2,600
Other options for non chrono Sinn's doing the same thing:
U2
U212
T1
EZM 7
EZM 9
Other shit Sinn does and watches that have it:
D3 system, on either the crown or pushers they can be operated at whatever depth the watch is rated to
Virtually all Sinn's have magnetic field protection per ISO 764, however several are resistant to a milgauss
DIAPAL, they coat the anchor escapements in diamond to eliminate the need for lubrication, theoretically extending service periods
If you want all of their technologies in 1 watch its going to be either the 900 DIAPAL or the recently discontinued 756/757 DIAPAL
My personal shortlist:
900 Diapal
3006 Jagduhr
756 Diapal
U2 or 212 SDR
U1000 SDR
Only other relevant watches I can think of for mountaineering are ones with mechanical altimeters
It's a short list
Oris Big Crown ProPilot Altimeter
Favre-Leuba Bivouac 9000
