>>2342080There's free camping in Forbes State Forest, southeast of the city, and in all the state forests. Also in Allegheny National Forest but that's a ways away.
Raccoon Creek State Park northwest of the city has a twenty mile backpacking loop with Adirondack shelters and tent sites. It's muddy. There's also "primitive" camping, with just an outhouse and a potable water spigot. And a seasonal campground with showers and flush toilets.
There are many hiking trails in the area. Do a web search for the Rachel Carson Trail Conservancy, they manage a number of trails.
