Also, any caliber effective against a bear has enough recoil to make re-aiming a damned nuisance, shooting a .357 is already impractical for follow ups, something like .454 Casull is out right impossible to quickly put back on target (unless you are a 0.1% of males ultra roid gorilla, which i am not). So yeah, someone spewing BS like "i can dome a charging bear" sounds like the only handgun he ever shot was in a video game.
