Vancouver is supposedly internationally renowned for its outdoors activities. I haven't yet found anywhere that I can hike into backcountry and light a fire. Golden Ears seems to have year-round fire bans. Any recommendations?

Just find Hastings Street and start walking east. Lots of parks, little hideaways, and green cubby holes you can roll into. The friendliest Canadians outside of Newfoundland are there, many will share a meal or offer you a room in their own house.

basically vancouver sucks. there are some nice trails and overnight spots but its false reputation as "omg such outdoorsy city" is maintained by city fags who spend their weekends fantasizing about going to the big mountains they can see from their office. the "hardcore" ones put on $2000 worth of arcteryx gear and spend 4 hours hiking grouse once a month. there is no good camping, just mediocre shit off of some trails where fires are b7. if you want a fire you have to pay to reserve a small spot next to 6 other families in a provincial campground 4 months ahead of time and hope it doesn't get too hot and dry. they'd ban lightning/thunderstorms if they could because forest fire smoke has been fucking up the province during august, the one nice month it has every year. hate vancouver.

Tourist traps.

There is no good camping within GVRD...you have to go elsewhere in the province to get good camping.

I used to go camping all the time but not any more...the local places are expensive, sold out, and not worth it. Golden ears is just over run now.

Given that there is no fireban.

Sucks to hear, I’ve always wanted to do golden ears since I can see it from my house. From my experience canoe camping is still viable with 4 hrs of the city since it rents to filter at least 70% of the Ching Chong’s and retards. To the OP, look for old camping/hiking books at the used book stores; they usually have big sections dedicated to BC. Try and find places that are not maintained anymore or are difficult to access. I also do trips that require a built 4wd + thru hiking but that’s usually further out because retards have forced the province to put up gates everywhere.

Youre right about most people's idea of outdoorsy in Vancouver is shit like the grouse grind; the bitch hikes in the metro area are overcrowded. However, no other major city in North America is so close to peak /out/ than Vancouver. The fact that you don't know where the good sports are says more about you than Vancouver. Also how fat are that it took you 4 hours to hike up grouse?

Maybe that was too harsh. But the firebans are necessary when you have the number of retards mixed with the wildfire risk that Vancouver has. The wilderness of coastal BC is unbeatable, the people aren't.

Take a ferry to the Sunshine Coast and go up to Mount Elphinstone or Homesite Creek.

Also the area east of Hope near the Carolin Mines road. I have also camped north of Squamish and it was nice.

Also, I don’t know about their fire regulations, but Gambier Island or Keats Islands also seem like they have good camping, I have not been to either one sadly.

Vancouver and the Fraser valley in general are just a horrible place to live. I lived there for a few years and and in the process of moving somewhere else. Somewhere less soul crushing.
The population surrounding the valley is a major limiting factor in just about every aspect of life, not just outdoor activities. If you want to book a camp site on a weekend for example, you need to look months out, and even then it will be slim pickings.
There is some crown land north of hatzic that I frequent but it is busy and you need an off-road capable vehicle. It's also pretty abused, most the servicable locations for a camp site will be full of trash like beer cans and shot up propane tanks. It's kind of disgusting, Vancouverites are sub-humans.

Bring a propane / fuel powered fire item, I'm sure fire restrictions are tiered usually ur fine to use those pic rel is what I use regardless of restrictions

Pic rel is what I use, can use tiny jet meme cans or with adaptor take any size of propane, heats enough for leanto, easily hot box a tent and works in my small RV as a back up
