They are pretty heavy for serious single track, but you can lighten them up a little bit by removing unnecessary things. Although if that kind of riding is something you want to do I would recommend getting something with an e-start because kickstarting the DR over and over again when you're stuck on a technical trail is fucked.
For long trips the seat gets pretty uncomfortable and if you're on a highway and it's windy you will probably get blown around a lot. That being said, the bikes are definitely capable of doing it, it's just about how much you can stomach. I once rode for 11 hours straight on mine.
For basic trails and riding around town they are perfect. Plenty of power to get through traffic and I think they get around 60mpg. And for a dual sport they actually handle really well on a windy road, not too light or too heavy.
