>>2348090States, California especially, have made off-grid almost impossible for anyone not in a multimillionaire class to go off-grid.
Requirements for your dwelling to be considered habitated and legal dwelling.
-1000 sq feet of GRASS, well kept and mowed, yes thats right, 1,000 sq ft of well mowed GRASS are required to be considered a dwelling.
There are ALOT of dwelling/living requirement statutes in both the country and in cities and towns. With a large amount of towns REQUIRING you to use the utilities and pay for them to reside there. Your "rustic off-grid cabin several miles outside of town" now has been encroached on by the expanding town. You have to pay to get sewage line, power line, water line, etc installed AND used to continue residing there.
These are the 2 main blocks to off-grid living. Unless you somehow have a dirt road to a semi-maintained road 30 miles away from a small town, money enough to pay all taxes and fee's for living there, got PERMITS and paid to have said PERMITS FILED AND CERTIFIED, you can't legally off-grid cabin/cave/etc.
Now off-grid TRAILERS, those CAN still be done, along with RV's. Just remember that many trailer parks actively seek to throw out "poor trailer trash" for "rich trailer trash". Think HOA's that actively try to kill their members to continue upgrading and increasing profits.
