What's your opinion on using simple track suit bottoms for outdoor and bushcraft activities? seems to me that they have good characteristics for outdoor pants (breathable, stretch so easy to wear with layers, quick drying, usually polyester so moisture wicking). Anything that i overlook ?

not op, but smell is a non-factor.
The problem I would see with those pants is durability. Ripstop pants are already light and quick drying with the important benefit of not falling apart if you sit on a rock.

This is the answer. I have adidas but I wouldn't think to use it for camping, much less for bushcrafting. You'll get slav squat posters showing them doing it wearing masks and all, but that's roughing it to rough it

Theyre good for a hike, but if youre doing anything harder than that they might start getting beat up.
dont listen to the larpers that tell you you need 1000$ of kit to walk up a 2000m mountain or do a 20Km hike.

you want polycotton instead as it has the benefits of both. I just use dickies 874, but there's a reason militaries over the world use polycotton or nyco (nylon cotton) mixes.
It's fine if you are not using fire of any kind, but aside from pure synthetics being lighter and drying faster, they tend to lack durability to abrasion and stand no chance against the flame.

False. Polyester is a non-absorbent plastic. You are perpetuating a lie spread by big oil to sell more toxic plastics. While certain weaving techniques can create textiles which allow for effective vapor dispersion, the plastic materials themselves do not have wicking properties. Cotton doesn't kill, stupidity does.

I wear carhatts in 90° weather for this reason. 100 yards of blackberry brambles will turn some fancy overpriced "hiking" pants into shredded cloth, which is non-absorbent thus not even fit to use as rags.

I don't wear cotton as a base layer while out, but I have never had an instance of when polyester dried faster than cotton that I've noticed
I don't like to wear adidas pants like OP because when they get wet they just seem to hold it forever

I live in the PNW and for the misty rain we get here the CS95 (british made) has worked legendary. It is a polycotton tightly woven that is extremely water repellant and dries fast while being a good thickness.
I think the blends give the best of both worlds, but people exaggerate cotton.

They sure don't make them like they used to. I have what's basically an older version of this pant, but they went and made the waist on these things like twice as small. Like how is anyone with the slightest amount of ass gonna fit into pants like these?
My old ones are at the point that the seams are gonna give out soon, but too bad the same pant is not available in it's old size god damn it.

I like light zipoff pants if I can get them, but most of the time I wear some wrangler outdoor pants I got at walmart for $20. They're comfy enough to not be a nuisance, cheap enough to where I don't really care much about them, and durable enough to get a few years of use out of them

original moleskin pants from leo köhler. same pattern, fit and material like what the west german army had until they switched to flecktarn. several colors if you dont like olive for some reason. great shop in general, i get most of my clothes from there. dunno if they ship overseas, based in Hildesheim, Germany.

For summer I've been using basically any light synthetic pant. I have used my old scout zip offs, campmor pants, and recently the DOTF pants from Duluth. All have worked very well.

For winter it depends. I have some insulated work pants that I like except for the weight but they are great for general outdoors stuff. Canvas material is very durable and cuts wind right out. For hiking around though I usually go with a midweight base layer and the same pants for summer as long as I have an insulating layer (heavier base and rain pants for example) for camp. If have enough pack space I will sometime bring the US mil issue level 7 pants, very comfy in the cold.
