People either always took their shoes off or never did, and it was pretty heated. I never do, and that seems to make people angry for some reason. This hike was 2 miles to the first stream crossing, 5 miles to the next stream crossing, then another 5 miles. According to some /out/ists, even so much as stepping into a puddle and your sock becoming slightly damp will result in blisters so bad your toes will have to be amputated.
