And you underestimate hats - a proper wide brim, such as the kind Aussie lifeguards use, is a real boon in crappy weather and massively increases the mechanical venting of a rain jacket by letting you lower your hood, and can be strapped to your head even in high winds. Raffia straw or synthetic only though, forget grass straw or felt.
They are pretty cool in some climates, especially managed woodland and strong sun in low wind, plus you can use them with a tarp in semi-sheltered areas to give a much more enclosed, structural area as long as the brolly is load bearing enough to handle the wind pressure
