>>2364346In rare cases when people find abandoned babies and rear them, a raccoon can be a kind of an exotic pet, because it’s pretty uncommon. Wild adolescent/adult raccoons = ABSOLUTELY NOT.
I leave what I can’t compost out for wild animals, and I began altering times I’d put things out and avoid dusk/dark BECAUSE of the raccoons. They were extremely clever and BRAVE, escalating quickly from noting my drop time and waiting from afar to noting my drop time and hauling ass up to me and trying to snatch the scraps from my hands before they could drop. Oh, sure- it’s “cute” but you don’t want wild animals anywhere near that close. The next step after they lose their fear is NOT going to be friendship. They’re WILD. They beat the shit out of each other sometimes fighting over food, and that often happems seemingly at random after dining peacefully together for a spell. Just one raccoon could maul the shit out of you. They’re also known disease carriers.
