The only legit old-timey/survival fire making method I respect is making a bowdrill on-site and having the skill to start a fire with it.
Everything else is 'why didn't you just bring an extra lighter and firestarters' tier. You won't be finding charcloth, flints (except certain areas) and steels in the typical wilderness.
