I hike in the Deep South. Often in the summer, every day there’s a 30% chance of rain. This a misnomer. What they actually mean is there is a 100% chance of rain; it is a guarantee that in my local forecast area, it will be raining. It’s just a 30% chance that I, as an individual, will be rained on. As such, I take an umbrella (it’s much to hot for even a poncho).

Point being, you should be more familiar with your local weather patterns and know what to expect. If sudden, no-warning downpours are a likely possibility, then plan accordingly.

In my area it usually never just suddenly starts raining with no warning, it's usually all cloudy and mucky beforehand. What happened is that there was some storm that suddenly got swept north for whatever reason and rained on us. No way to predict that until it's all falling on your head.

The problem wasn't that it was raining. It's that I wasn't prepared with a rain coat because the weather forecast said it wouldn't rain.

That is absolute ass when that happens but it’s stopped bothering me so much since I turned into a wool chad. My woolie jumper stays comfy when wet and if you’re generating some heat it actually doesn’t get as wet as you might think. Also can pick them up second hand dirt cheap.
Also I prefer walking in the rain nowadays.
