What to do about people stealing the food you're growing, and how to handle those situations.

This is obviously an issue for more urban gardeners, but I'm sure rural folks have issues too. Especially given our current outlook of food shortages.

I live in a small apartment building, 14 units, quiet.
Nobody used the patio because it was shitty and full of trash and broken glass. We cleaned it up and put a bunch of pots out there. Neighbors keep praising us, but we never see anyone out there. But my vegetables are getting bigger, and so are the numbers on the price tags in the produce section.

Yes, literally signing up for a lease. It's not first come, first serve you can just take the office downtown if it's empty. It's what people "signed up for" alot of times that tie them to that location- because you can't just dump a lot that is worth alot of money into the market and get it sold immediately.

The lease doesn't mention anything about the patio, and the building is so small there is no onsite office. It's a management company and they are new. I've had no issues with any neighbors. Everyone is entirely pleased, they're all just homebodies. We all know each others names here. I have offered to buy them dirt if they get pots and I'll show them how to garden, but nobody commits.

I have no idea what you're talking about in regards to first come first serve. I think you're miss understanding.

This management company has only had this property for less than 6 months. The previous manager was fired due to dementia, so the new manager knows diddley squat. She knows there's a garden. She doesn't care.

Look at the context of how it was said. You have to sign up for a building- you can't just claim an empty office FIRST COME FIRST SERVE and say its yours. Look up gold claim if you want. You sign paperwork (that lease thing you mentioned). I don't understand how that is such a hard sentence to understand.

Look,
This is a small community. A few people have pots out in front of their doors. I've offered to move them out to the patio to catch some sun, no response.

Nothing in the lease talks about the patio. Doesn't even mention it. It's on site, so it's technically everyone's. People have had gardens here before I moved in. I wanted to start it back up again, everyone is too busy with take out and working from home.

Mostly wanted to know if I should just ask them not to..or should I seriously trade them my tomatoes for their gas. Because I'll take the gas, man. I'll straight up take the whole tank.

I've never minded much as long as someone doesnt take the plant wholesale
i have some plants near the road including tomatoes, and if someone sees one they like and takes it, that makes me feel good inside
i grow most of my food in an old, derelict overgrown gravel pit that the whole community uses as a bit of a commons, i grow some stuff out there and the local people and animals enjoy it

I keep the pellet gun on hand. It's pretty spicy so it'll break some good skin. I keep the 5.56 in case they want to contest the pellet gun. Neither person I've used the pellet gun on has tried the 5.56.
