Hey guys, found this rock on a hike .
Can anyone identify it?
It's about the size of an egg and is heavy for it's size.
Black crystal structure with shiny bits as well

thats a way better shot, yes you likely have some form of magnetite or other rich iron ore. would be neat to see what the inside looks like with a slab saw.

no probably not, but if you could split it in half we could get a fresh surface and get a better idea of what the mineral making it magnetic is.

yes but now you will have two rocks! You might even have a whole bunch of smaller rocks! How big is the sample anyway? If you want more info on it we need a clean fresh surface, your best bet would be to find someone to cut it in half with a diamond saw so we can see the inside nice and polished.

"breccia" is a texture of rock, where fragments of rock are re-cemented together usually with quartz or another filler mineral. This looks like the minerals are as they were when they grew.
