>>2374416Just one canoe? If so, a normal roof rack and 2 ratchet straps over the top has done me fine for a decade, similar to
>>2374436 but without the front and rear, and with no insulation rods around the bars, I also just shut the doors over the loose ends of the straps too, problems weren't. When I started I would strap it front and rear for fear that the boat would work the straps loose and eventually slip out under hard braking but the most I have seen it move was the prow wiggling a few inches to one side after around 3 hours of somewhat spirited driving on twisty roads. The straps are good thule ones without as much elasticity compared to the cheap ones you get and the mechanisms are better too I would say, but also the most bulbous part of the hull lies between the straps so it would take a lot of force to stretch or overcome the mechanism before that could pass through. There's also a little flex in the whole hull when you strap it down, the boat is trying to decompress away from the direction of pull by the straps, which keeps it locked down pretty tight in a similar way that a washer works to keep a bolt tight.
Anyway I like my halfassed janky system because it's on and off the car in about a minute and has never failed me, get good straps and give it a try.
