Are these water purifiers a meme? They sell for about $300, and last for tens of thousands of gallons. They look like they are good for car supported camping or emergency preparedness. Have any /out/ists used one of these?

Prepper LARPing is a perfectly legit reason to go /out/, as long as you are actually going out and using it and not just hoarding gear that never gets used. As long as you are outside and having fun that's what matters.

i do both. but i dont carry something huge like that. portable hand pumps and collapsible water containers are your best bet. if someone brings a large enough pot, you only need to boil water like 2-3 times in a 4-5 day stay. that being said, filter > boiling

This.

Or get the ceramic pump filters (which can be cleaned) if you have really turbid water to deal with.
I just like these because they last forever and can be beat to fuck, and its what I learned on.

If you are super worried about viruses, do the above and either boil or add a single drop of water treatment chemical (no-additive-bleach or iodine, also wait an hour after adding before drinking).
