Sup guys noob here

Pic relevant , last place I went camping (a bout a week ago)

Want to get myself xmas present of medium sized axe for bushcraft. Any recommendations?

Check out Fiskars, nigguh.

Made by the same company as Gerber, but much cheaper because they market it as "gardening". They go for around 40$, last time I checked.

Some sc/out/s will probably try to sell you some hand-crafted wooden axe. Those are bullshit.

Cheap hatchet from local hardware store. Upgrade as you need to.

My current hatched cost ~£10, and has lasted well over a year of use so far. Only needed to sharpen it four times after re-profiling the edge.

Before you buy an axe, do you have a good tent/hammock setup? Do you have a good set of boots or two? Do you have a good knife and multitool?

There are many great things that will help you much further in going /out/ and bushcrafting than an axe.

im by no means an expert but ray mears is and he does a lot of what i know as bushcraft with a knife. there are some good videos of his using axes of different sizes and their uses and also knives. i would invest in a good knife too.

i don't know much about fiskars but aesthetically i don't like them so i wouldnt get it :/

I was thinking of trying out a Fiskars brush axe this season instead of a hatchet. It weighs about the same and I thought it might be more convenient for carrying on or in a pack. I can't decide whether to go with that or get a short parang. I mostly want something more convenient than a hatchet, but I don't want something that will make me look like Hannibal Lecter out for a stroll.
