>>2391387You need electrolytes, and not sugar. It's hard to get them separately unless you make your own.
Try this mix. You can add some lemon if you're a pussy and can't eat or drink things that taste bad.
2L Water
1tsp Potassium chloride
1tsp Sodium chloride
Salt alone is not enough, and it will just fuck your electrolyte balance up even more. Drink this mix 1:1 with regular water. one liter of this mix, then one liter of water.
Also, don't fill up on crabs. Eat more fats, as they give you longer sustained bursts of energy. Replace chicken breast, with chicken thighs as it has more fat, and eat fatty burgers instead of steaks.
If you drink coffee, try it with a tab of butter instead of creamer, but don't try it for the first time before a hike as it might give you the shits.
Also, by a fitbit or something to monitor your resting heart rate, and try to go for walks around town to get your cardio up. You can load a pack, or a normal backpack with some weight and go for "shake down" hikes around town to see how you feel.
I don't eat it, but GORP(Good old raisins and peanuts) will give you fast and slow energy and is easy to carry on the trail. If you make your mix with salted peanuts, you can even sprinkle in some of the potassium chloride to balance the electrolyte mixture. A banana with some celery sticks filled with peanut butter would also be a great trail snack.
Stick to it Anon, and you can use hiking as a way to get healthy.
