not very far but once went up to union reservoir in the sierra and kayaked out to the side you can't reach by car and then went over some of the granite hills there. was very nice, there were meadows with purple flowers like pic related

there's this neighborhood a couple cities away from me that has this gated area and there's a certain part of the fence that has a hole in it to get through and once we went exploring and reached an area that was deep in a nature setting. i recall seeing old street signs all rusted up, much shorter than they are now. one of the people there said he saw a dead body and we turned around quick and left. i personally didn't see it, it was deep in a tree, grassed up area.

I dunno, like all the way? 50+ miles? A lot of the backpacking I've done has been for work and a large chunk of it was entirely off trail, mostly following streams.

Honestly, the trail is there for your convenience, hiking off trail most times fucking sucks. When you're on a trail you can just fucking book it barely even have to watch your step.

in Finland there are no places without dirt road used for logging in 10 kilometers vicinity where ever you go so i would have to say 9km
might sound lame when put like that but imagine digging trough abandoned ant nest without hitting another tunnel, completely empty with roads galore
