It’s sort of the cherry on top of the fake-experience social media photo sundae. They don’t show the line they waited in, they don’t show the entirety of the crowded trail, they don’t show how close the parking lot is, then they post a photo making it appear that they’re standing out over a tall drop off. The entire thing is fake from top to bottom. I don’t really have anything against crowded trails; this one is close to a city and super accessible. It’s also in California, so it’s only a couple of hours from several other cities. If you go hiking 20 minutes from the center of San Diego, you’re brain damaged if you don’t think it will be crowded. But the misleading nature of these photos is some kind of indictment of society.
