Get a lacrosse ball to roll your arches out, modern footwear has failed our plantar fascia. Overworking your feet after wearing shoes all your life will fuck them up, so take it easy and in a month or two you'll be jumping up and down on gravel and hiking 10+ miles easily

Done DIY sandals and barefoot, have for 13+ years now.
Just walk on em, they toughen up.
I can jog on gravel. No joke. I don't prefer that, but I have the ability anyway.
It's like anything else, it just takes time and training.

I have not much of an arch and hereditary painless bunions, hiking without footwear or really flat shoes feels amazing to be. I can't imagine people with normal feet would be happy hiking with arches.

I grew up in the desert and a hot summer day was 125 degrees. The sheboons would still walk around barefoot on the pavement. I don't know how the fuck they do it. Don't those types of people feel pain?

Best tip imho is to constantly (partly) remove you cornea. Its more comfortable with cornea but naturally grown it tear apart and cause more trouble than feeling every small pece of dirt. Some Trips on sand like beaches can help with that.

I walked up the Mt. Torbreck summit before winter and I saw 2 copperheads and 2 red bellied black snakes before the snow line. There's tiger snakes where I walk near home. I'm not going barefoot.
