Heya /out/,

Can someone describe the typical layout of what a cowboy might've taken with them when they were out and about? I'm curious to see how it compares to what we take out today.

They were usually provisioned from a "chuckwagon" that followed the herd. Camps were simple affairs. Contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of cowboys did not carry revolvers.

Basically gangsters, so carry anything. People in the old West though had a typical setup. Rifle in horse storage area. Pistol, etc. Go watch Treasure of the Sierra Madre or a old Sam Peckinpah movie, or goto librarie.

This is false, Many Cattle drivers carry a firearm or some type of lethal device other than a knife. The purpose of the weapon is to dispatch sickly/injured cattle that can no longer continue on the trail. I live on a ranch and from personal experience, there is no real stopping or time for camping. You go from point A to point B, day and night...

I worked as a cowboy for minimum wage, shit sucked yo. The lewd drunk Mexican coworkers made it fun though. The one thing Iearned is that cowboys are a state of mind, you gotta be rugged. Any faggot thinks he can wear boots and a 10 gallon hat, but that don't made him rugged. I wore jeans, steel toed boots, cotton shirts and a sombrero while working, good fucking shade yo.

Well for starters, a horse. You can't really compare gear of someone with an animal-powered means of conveyance to the gear of someone who must carry all their gear on their back. People back in the day just didn't (and couldn't) do what we do today. They'd need to either resupply their food by hunting, or have a pack animal to carry their old-fashioned and heavy gear and supplies.

That was really about it on cattle drives; the cowboys that did that were basically the absolute bottom of the barrel.

Know people, go to rural towns to see if anyone needs work. You'll have to work as a ranch hand for a long time because cattle is fucking expensive and they need to trust you. Cattle rustling is still a federal crime with pretty harsh sentences.
