I plan on taking a desolate and isolated in the wilderness camping trip by myself on a SUV in South Dakota to get away from my entire family and friends for a summer. It's nothing personal against them all, but I just need a break from them. Do you all have any tips for my camping trip there?

WRONG - trynna get anon stuck with the tourist hordes

there's miles of nearly EMPTY hiking opportunities in eastern mountains because ppl assume "hurr only west coast is le real mountains" and that could not be more wrong

if you want tourist traps and busloads of diversity - sure - you can stay west

but know that the best forests are to the east!!!!

I don't know about Montana dude. Hardly anyone knows what Montana is. I was thinking of going to Maine, but I'm sure everyone and their mother has gone to Maine.

People always pick the most remote ones - but you aren't the only one to have that idea- and it isn't always necessarily correct.

There are tons of mountains, trails, and campgrounds that are virtually empty year round scattered across the states I mentioned. You're projecting. Not to mention that, if one does some cursory research, he can find trails into the real rocky mountains without having to pay for park passes or campgrounds.

and that's a good thing - there are thousands of miles of trails on the east coast and life is sadly too short to get to even close to all of them

the forest here is alive - in the west its just dry rocks, decay and death
