It's very cool if you're in the right area. But it's very location dependent. In my area there's basically nothing to find due to a combination of very little metal object history and lots of people already combing the area.

It's pretty faggy to see someone here in the local forest digging up dirt trying to find some WW2 or WW1 artefacts. If that's your hobby great, but be mindful of the environment you are destroying by making holes everywhere. You have a point, but people have still found some cool stuff where I live. Nothing like in the UK though, I watched a guy on youtube dig up multiple medieval and Roman artifacts in an afternoon. Just on some random field!
