min/maxxing in adverse environments

No.2387890 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
in a few months i will be spending a lot of time in the desert. i am curious what biohacks/advice you all might have for easing existence in more extreme places. i'll list a few i've came across over the years and learned through personal experience

>nasal breathe to reduce water loss (slower and deeper breaths = less turbulent air = less water lost during breath cycle)
>don't open your mouth and don't spit
>dark, loose clothing like the bedouin's robes to block and absorb direct sun while maintaining good airflow
>avoid synthetics, they are miserable when sweaty and smell horrendous
>adding a pinch of salt to your water bottle to replenish electrolytes. also nice to have some on hand when cooking
>don't drink more than 1/4 of a liter every 15 minutes since your body can't absorb water any faster so anything in excess of that goes straight through to your balls
>take a one hour siesta shortly after noon to read/journal etc in the shade and escape the peak of the day
>go barefoot whenever possible, as your feet have lots of surface area and sweat glands to vent heat
>if you are going truly feral or not around others (or with cool people), mixing fat and campfire ash and smearing it around the eyes can noticeably improve vision in bright sun

obviously these mostly apply to arid conditions, but feel free to add anything pertinent to other environments. i also have some cold weather tips if there's interest
