Leatherman used to be the best, but since Victorinox stepped in, everything changed. Multitools quality has always been laughable compared with Swiss army knives, and it took the Swiss to make a proper multitool.

Unless you're riding a bike, fishing, or have some activity where you need to deal with lots of mechanical parts, you don't need a dozen screwdrivers, wire cutters and strippers, pliers, and above all, I seriously hope you don't need can and bottle openers, nor that you don't know of a couple ways to open one without a dedicated tool.
Both are next to useless /out/.
Hell, most hikers only carry a small folding knife, its main use being to cut food and dig holes to shit in. They'd be better off with a small shovel and a plastic knife.
