new to fishing, and i just wanted to start with catch and release. threw a cast out with a regular hook and night crawlers and immediately caught a largemouth bass. was scared as fuck to unhook it because i didn't want to hurt it, but i used pliers and i think i managed to remove it without much damage.
then i fucked up bad. i had tried lure fishing before but never caught anything. so i had a new lure, and i thought it was too much excitement, i didn't want to really catch anything, just wanted to cast the lure out and practice since i thought i won't catch shit anyway.
i fucking immediately got a bite from what i now know was a medium sized chain pickerel. ok, i'll just remove the hook like before. but this lure has like four fucking hooks, with multiple points on each. i have no idea how, but in trying to remove the hook i made it worse, and somehow pushed the hook through the wrong way. i have no fucking clue how, and if it was a regular hook i could have just cut the line and the hook would be out, but i couldn't fucking cut the hook out with this because they are directly attached to this lure, and now the other hooks are starting to get in, and its just impossible to get out now, like no fucking way.
i started panicking on what to do, i was completely unprepared, i didn't know if i should cut the line and let it go or not, or if i should just kill it, but i had nothing to kill it with and no idea how, and some fucking people pulled up behind me in a big loud fucking truck and i panicked and thought they would rightfully yell at me for fucking up the hook, and so panicked and i cut the line really quickly with the lure still on the fish, just really deep and impossible to get out, and it basically slowly swam away. i bought shit to actually kill a fish and try to take it home next time if this happens, but i just had no idea i could possibly fuck up taking a lure out that badly.
