Poorfag here, pic rel are my only pair of shoes I own besides a pair of sneakers for running. How fucked am I if I try to hike a long distance in these? I work everyday in them and walk on concrete on them comfortably, however I haven't really put them to the outdooring test. Anyone else wear something similar?

if you are comfortable working in them and walking in them, and the soles are in good condition, you will be fine. I've done 8-10 hour hikes with a good deal of elevation gain with pic related. I was used to them, and I found them to be more comfortable than any hiking shoes I had at the time. The big problem I envision for hiking boots is the grip of the treads on more slippery surfaces. But if you are extra careful it should be ok.
tldr you can hike in any shoe that you can live in comfortably.

Yeah well. The funny thing about footwear is that many people can tolerate even the theoretically worst kind of it and do fine, so you do you. But generally speaking:

Some definitely can be slick, but you can get cowboy boots that are basically slip proof if you look enough.
Nicer cowboy boots are genuinely great for work/hiking (as long as you don't go down the fancy patterns/leather rabbit hole, those are dress shoes for rednecks)

Wrangler and ariat are pretty solid options, although there are likely other good picks. Just don't cheap out, if you use them a decent bit it's the difference in having a solid pair of boots for decades and having holes in them by the end of year 1

You won't know until you try it out. A whole bunch of people could tell you they can't do it but you could be one of the few who can handle it. I hike long distances in a $13 pair of rubber boots from Walmart and most people who see this make a cringe face and tell me it would kill their feet, but I'm completely comfortable in them in rocky terrain.
