Brain Eating Amoebas and gators

No.2392989 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I'm from Michigan and grew up swimming in lakes and stuff. I'm visiting my cousins in Louisiana for the first time in years and he says "yeah let's go swimming" like it's nothing. But the lake he wants to swim in is a literal gator infested swamp that's a perfect warm still water breeding ground for amoebas and bacteria. Is this a suicide swim? Do any southern bros know if it's safe to swim in gator waters at all? And also if it's safe to swim in water that is known to have amoebas and bacteria? I know people do it but is it safe?
