the great lakes basin is fed from the entirety of canada all the way up to the hudson bay; it will not run out in our lifetimes even with niagara falls going full bore
there is about six feet of annual variation based on rainfall and canadian ice melt; most docks and seawalls are built to average this.
the ENTIRETY OF DOMESTIC STEEL FABRICATION IS DEPENDENT ON LAKES FREIGHTERS, who have been doing exactly the same thing for NEARLY A HUNDRED YEARS.
