This is just what i take on a typical overnight or two. Total weight: 15 oz. Includes mini med kit (2.5 oz). I could probably leave the battery and cables home on an overnight and save 5.8 oz there. Everything the body needs

That's a cool organization system. I have a toiletries pouch separate, so i can stash it in the bear hang with the smelly toothpaste. I love when a bag is just the right size :)

The person at rei thought my bear line is too thin, but it's doing great so far.

They are mainly used as flame extenders. They aren't large enough to heat you. Those terracotta pot heaters that use tea candles are a meme.

Do you think it would be better to stay on your feet to fight hypotherms? I'm thinking squatting down with a tarp around me like a blanket. Tea light could be put inside. Or maybe kneeling on shins like tibetans would be better. I was getting into it a bit over survival techniques in extreme cold. My opponent contended that you want to try to lay down in a bivvy and pad. I think if I'm just surviving a night the goal is to not sleep, keep blood flow optimized. Seems it would be hard to die from cold while on your feet, but I'm no expert.

i imagine keeping any contact with cold surfaces to a minimum would be helpful in maintaining body temperature, depending on how could it is having all that contact with a potentially freezing pad would be a major heat drain.

You definitely could do that I've heard stories of people waking up every 10 minutes to do heavy calisthenics in order to not freeze to death through the night(it was an episode of the sharp end podcast). The problem would come if you didn't have any food to keep yourself going and pass out from exhaustion in the cold. You'd want a sit pad or your pack under your ass and the poncho completely sealed around your body and neck. The tea light would eventually heat that air around you warm enough to keep you safe.

it should not be your primary way of keeping warm through the night and would not work in heavy winds. It's what cavers carry and use if they get too cold/wet.
