Axes and hatchets

No.2404021 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
I needs some help. I got a hatchet recently. It was only a $50 thing so nothing super fancy, but it seemed like a good enough quality one. The head started coming loose so I re-hung it with a new wooden wedge and a new barrel wedge, and then I soaked it in mineral oil for a few days just to be sure. And then when I used it, the barrel wedge started popping out and the head got loose again.

I added a second wedge to the front of the axe head at an angle, and I think I must have been trying to split wood that was way too hard, but I'm worried that it's going to loosen up on me again and I'm running out of options. Should I try soaking it in linseed oil since, hypothetically, it will harden up eventually and not get squeezed out like the mineral oil?
