>>2408632I live in a subtropical environment, 63” of annual rainfall, 216 sunny days per year, in heartiness zone 9B. To have an immaculate lawn here all you have to do is not park your car on it. Seriously, the front of everyone’s house looks like a golf course and all anyone does is mow. No chemicals or seeding or natural fertilizing. Just mow it (and edge so it looks alright). That’s how you get a lush, deep green, amazing lawn here.
A nice lawn is just a hassle. The long summers mean the grass growing period is that much longer. And because of the steady rain (this is the south, where the is no defined rainy or dry season), it grows pretty much year round. Outside of winter, it has to be mowed weekly. If you miss a week, it will be extremely tall; too tall for a woman or child to push a mower through, and too tall for an electric mower to handle.
The drone of lawn equipment this time of year usually starts around 8am on Saturday and lasts until sundown on Sunday. Sometimes there might be a short reprieve because it’s hot as balls outside.
I’ll never understand the point of a lawn. If we weren’t in the process of moving it would be a vegetable garden.
