Wanna go hiking inna woods like I used to but don't have friends anymore to join me. Then I run into other hikers who are buddied up or with their girlfriends and it hurts bros.

Keep your mind busy.

Bring a book, carve something from wood, watch the bush TV (fire), cook a meal that takes more than boiling water in a pouch.

I bought an Irish tin whistle with me because you can literally pick it up and play tunes without any real training.

If you don't want hours alone, work your arse off all day so you don't want to do anything but get some food in your guts and go to sleep.

i know this feeling all too well. its funny and ironic when people get on your case about hiking/paddling alone when no one wants to go along.. so you have to go alone.
i would say: being alone can engender some powerful experiences with other animals and your environment. being with a group tends to bring the focus to communication (unless you know other silent types)

Idk how to describe it. But when I go out hiking alone, sometimes I play music while I go and sometimes I just listen to the sounds of the nature around me. But even if I were to feel lonely, the awe of the world around me feels greater and overshadows any loneliness. When I am out there I just embrace the vast world, I allow myself to be mesmerized by the sights and views, the sounds and the smells. I do not care if I am alone or not. Just being there is therapeutic and I get inner peace.

About to move to Montana and my now-ex taught me all I know about camping. It’s gonna be sad and shit, prolly won’t bring booze because that ends badly for me when I’m in unfamiliar places but it’ll be new, and I can explore at my own pace. Sounds like you feel lonely already and there's just less to distract you while hiking. If that's the case, then it isn't possible for you to avoid loneliness when /out/. In general, being out in nature alone forces you to confront yourself honestly. I recommend that you treat hiking as a way of embracing your loneliness and finding the value there. Go camping and bring something to read. You might like Seneca or Epictetus. Or you can stay inside and rot I guess

God is always with you anon. By going /out/ and observing and enjoying His Creation, you bring yourself closer to Him. Many great saints actively sought out the deep forests and the endless deserts of the world so they could be away from the world and be closer to God. Don't look at your loneliness while /out/ as a hole that needs filling with women or a bunch of hiking buddies, understand that it is a gift for you for self-reflection and appreciation for what you have in life.
