I just went camping this weekend and got absolutely destroyed by bugs because i was stupid and unprepared

Skin so soft and marathon. Mosquito coils, foggers, permethrin on your clothes, mosquito traps, electric bug racquets, and don't drink alcohol because they go for drinkers first. Buy a mosquito tent or some shit. Idk what you guys want but there are a ton of solutions.

Hi, me, I was literally about to make this thread. I went hiking in the woods today similarly unprepared and they would not leave my head alone. Will I get cancer from wiping bug spray on my face/ears/neck? Google says no, but will they fuck off if I do that but don't do anything with my hair? I feel like a full bug net hat would be LARPy since I live in Michigan and wasn't that far out, but I'd be willing to try anything.

I use one of these for all outdooring, hunting, fishing, camping, gardening and just chilling in my yard. Thermacell is the name and they come in a bunch of styles, the portable one in my pic, stake ones for the yard, fancy table top models and ones that look like an ultralight camp stove that go on the fuel cans. Lasts for 4 hours and keeps pretty much anything that flies and bites away.

I live in Northern Ontario in a spot with some of the worst mosquitos in the world. Last weekend I used a mix of this, bug spray, mosquito coils, bug spray cream, thick layers at night and plenty of tobacco smoke and didn't get more than 1-2 bites on my feet because I had sandals on. Get gud.

Legit, I'm going to buy this hat with net, when I go mushroom hunting this later summer, last year mosquitoes got my face so bad I ended up looking like Quasimodo long lost sibling. But where do I buy these hats exactly? Wildlife store?

It’s two separate items. The hat is any full brimmed hat. The bug net is made to be universal and fit over most normal hats (they probably won’t work with a cowboy hat).

The hat looks like a generic bucket hat, maybe a boonie.

The trick seems to be to keep the net a bot away from your ears and neck, unlike a regular cap.

I go out in tick and misquito infested missouri. Permethrin is a godsend. I wear a hat, a light hoodie, long pants, long socks, and long athletic underwear. Treat it all with permethrin, use picardin lotion for any exposed skin and entryways. You can also apply permethrin to your tent, shoes, pack, whatever. I also sleep in a tent made of very fine mesh. The only time I ever get bit is when I wait too long to reapply the lotion and skeeters get my hands. Otherwise, I feel like I'm surrounded by an invisible anti-bug bubble.

Same. I use something called Autan, which keep insects from my skin for maybe 4 to 5 hours.
Permethrin on everything against ticks.

i got a horsefly bite the other day which stung more than any wasp ive been knicked by, i was shocked. i actually audibly yelped it was that intense of a pinch. i had a bruise on my leg after.
its been a few weeks and strangely just recently its flared up again and is super itchy now. very odd

Are clothes like InsectShield or ExOfficio's BugsAway shirts any different than just soaking your normal clothes in permethrin? They say they last for X washes which makes me think it's a shitty garment just treated with a bug repelling chemical.

I've watched her spin her web and do her thing every night at ~1 am for the past week or two. The problem is that she's a stupid bitch and puts up her web next to my balcony door, so every time I open it I destroy her web. I've unironically stopped going out on the balcony as much as I'd want to because I feel bad about it. What should I do? I'm considering capturing her and relocating her somewhere but I wouldn't mind her around if she just put up the web somewhere else. Can I discourage her from picking that spot somehow?
