I don't have a roof rack but I wanna bring my brother's canoe to our next camping trip. Will this do? I don't have any money I can't afford anything extra at all.

You can buy hood mounts or just DIY something to secure the front. Probably the most important tie down point.

Canoe acts like a sail, you’re gonna a tough time. I know from experience (not the spoiler bit the canoe flying off once you’re on the highway)

I'd put a strap from the front of the Canoe the front tow point(might be a screw in o ring point found in your roadside emergency kit). With that upward angle ots going to lift up and hard. Especially at speed.

Where is your bow line? Tie a 2 half hitch to the hook under your hood and then close the hood on it. Tie other end in a trucker hitch through something solid on the bow of the canoe. You WILL lose this from your roof like this.

Tighten everything up, looks way too loose. Also make sure you anchor the front of the canoe and you'll be good to go. It's only 60 miles.

i have that exact same canoe anon (coleman 15'?). I had it lashed onto my truck in the same kind of configuration, and once i got on the highway that mother fucker turned into a sail.
at 55mph it had enough force to tear the ropes in the middle/back and start fishtailing out of control from the front. luckily we were able to pull off before we caused an accident or damaged the canoe

I can promise you that shitty little decorative spoiler is held on by a couple of relatively frail pieces of plastic. I would pop the trunk and tie the canoe onto something with some structural strength (best bet would be the trunk latch. Otherwise if the canoe catches a bit of air it's going to rip that mofo out and you'll have a bad time. Also tie the front down to the underside of the bumper.

or is this an elaborate bait thread? :(

do NOT tie to the wing. that will get ripped off with any real force. they are barely held on there to start with. anchor inside the trunk on something, and under the hood.

Most cars have emergency tow points on the front and back. Check your vehicle's manual or just look underneath. As the other anon said, the front one is often hidden and must be uncovered and the emergency kit part screwed in. You want your canoe's front and back both lashed tightly into these points.

Ratchet straps are for pussies who didn't have fathers growing up. Use a truckers hitch and tighten them as much as you can then tie down the front of the canoe and you'll be fine.

Nah I'm a White Canadian. Thanks for the advice everyone. My 2009 Ford Fusion doesn't have a front tow point.. not even a screw-in one. I'm gonna ratchet strap it under the hood and trunk and widen+tighten the top straps too.
