I am going to receive an inheritance and I will be setting aside 4.5 million dollars USD to buy some land.

I am wondering if any of you know if I can buy land that has a forest, stream, and a mountain in Colorado?

Also, do you know of any other beautiful places where I can buy land be bask in earth porn.

Preferably a place that respects gun rights and is remote. I will be doing a lot of shooting with a lot of people.

What I have heard from people who do have this kind of money is that Colorado is nice, but your money will go farther in some of the less populated western states. I am not sure you will get a house + too much land in Colorado for $4.5 million, just going off my own rusty understanding of property values, fwiw. I know it sounds like a lot of dough ray mee, but there are a lot of other people like you who made it big back east (or farther west), or they got a trust fund dropped on their head, and they had the same dream as you. Only, they got there before you, and drove the property values through the ceiling.

As far as gun laws go, most of the western states are good. You can do your own research here. Wyoming and Arizona both have constitutional carry, afaik, and Alaska is the most gun-friendly state in the union.

You have enough money to buy a cabin and a fair amount of land, but you can't spare the change to fund a trip out west to check out these states for yourself? You sound like a prime candidate to impulse-buy some overpriced condo in some ultra-liberal part of Boulder or Aspen with a strict, Nazi-like HOA that will patrol your condo and your parking area for the slightest infractions and then prosecute to the full extent of the law.

As someone who has lived in all 3, definitely western montana. google pictutres of glacier national park/flathead lake and you will fall in love.

Western Washington is a close second though, specifically somewhere in the cascade mountain range, and you have the bonus of being near some big metropolitan areas (Seattle, Vancouver). Washington isn't as gun friendly as Montana, but you get all the benefits of living in a liberal state.

I know you want something remote and with lots of area, but some good areas to consider (by nearest city/population center):
>Kalipsell, Montana
>Whitefish, Montana
>Any town in north Idaho (Sandpoint, CDA)
>North Eastern Washington (somewhere near Ione, Washington, desolate, cheap land, but beautiful)
>Spokane, Washington
>anywhere near Mt. Adams, Washington (Trout Lake area), also desolate and cheap land, but gorgeous
>Cle Elum, Washington
>Anything in the corridor East of Sedro-Wooley (north cascades is prettiest in washington IMO)

As far as where to purcase the land, I vote for Colorado. Legal weed. Closer to civilization than Wyoming, Montana, or (God forbid) Alaska. And there's some nice folks there.

Really any of them, or Oregon, it just depends on where exactly you end up. In any of the states you can find some breathtakingly amazing forests, you can also find some deserty barren stuff. That said, if you want the really tall snow capped mountains, Oregon is probably best, followed by Washington. If you want forests, I think any of those four would be great.

Most of Montana is hilly at best, more like barren plains if I recall correctly (drove across the state once). That said, the western most part of Montana is some of the most amazingly beautiful forested mountains anywhere. That stretch of driving from western Montana, across Idaho to Washington is so amazing.

Keep in mind Utah is a lot of desert, but there is some forest, and very gun friendly I believe, and pretty cheap living. Another place to consider.

If you want the snow capped pointy mountains, Washington or Oregon, especially Oregon. If you want guns, Idaho, Montana, or Utah. What are your priorities? The big snow capped mountains? Mountain ranges? Forests? Streams? Lakes? Guns? Cheap, letting you actually get a lot for $4.5m (unlike Colorado)? I know you want all those things, but rank them if you want further help deciding. But really, you should go on a vacation and check out these places first. You should definitely check out the Olympic National Rainforest in Washington and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon. Both AMAZING places. I believe >>244955 was taken from Mount Hood National Forest.

I'd add to this that for most people, buying land on the OP isn't something to jump into. You won't know how you'll handle several hundred days of precipitation a year until you're living there and also many people think that it's just another part of western Washington - which is totally wrong. Living out there is a fucking trip; because the National Park and reservations take up such huge amounts of land right in the middle of everything all of the roads have to go around them and that means that if you want somewhere "isolated" (say, out by Neah Bay or Forks) then you're looking at a four to six hour drive to get to a major city. Not to mention the fact that you do NOT want to end up pissing off the natives, which is unfortunately easy. No matter what happens, it will never, ever end well for you.
